Unit 1 Exam.Since the start of the new school year I have started my unit 1 exam. There were several main topics I could choose to study, and I have chosen reflections. I started of by looking at the work of Lee Friedlander, I analysed his work and by doing this I was inspired for my own shoot. I started of by capturing images of off reflective surfaces. These where my experiment shoots. After experimenting I decided to focus on shop window reflections. After my first shoot I looked at another photographer called Paul Strand. I analysed his work and I took the idea of long shadows, and decided to combine the two together. For my most recent shoot I have experimented with capturing long shadows within window reflections and I will continue to develop this idea.

Miniature Worlds Feedback.Excellent camera handling skills - good use of aperture and focussing to create depth. Images are generally informed by an artist with a degree of originality. To improve, use Photohshop to make minor technical corrections such as white balance. You should focus on one of your ideas and develop it further - food or soldiers. CG: 38-D AO2: 7 AO3: 12 AO4: 10 In response to my feedback I have taken one of my soldier photographs. The one I have used is over exposed, so using photoshop I had edited the exposure and the white balance. I have put it underneath my final piece, and I have placed the original piece next to it. This helps to see the difference between the photos.
Narrative Project.Since responding to my feedback I have researched different ways of presenting my work. I have decided on fading out the old photo whilst the new one slowly appears from behind. I have done two shoots in this style experimenting with the length/time of each transition, and how it changes to one photo to the next. I have also added more photos to my second shoot in this style, making the fading of the photos more gradual and less sudden.
Responding to Feedback on the Narrative Project.Lovely idea that you have explored thoughtfully and supported with good critical analysis to start the project. You should complete critical analysis into the work of the Luxton Brothers. This will provide further clarity to your ideas. The theme of family is great, but the technique you have chosen is a reproduction of the Luxton Brothers work. Develop this technique further and explore other ways of presenting your images. Current Grade: 23 - F My Next Steps.I am going to complete a critical analysis of the Luxton Brothers and I am going to explore other ways of presenting my work; so that it is not a reproduction of their work. I will experiment with different ways to present my work and choose the one that works the best.
Narrative Project.I have started a new project since finishing the Alphabet Project. My current project is the Narrative Project, and since starting it I have completed a lot of tasks. I have critically analysed the work of David Hockney and his work with joiners, creating a joiner of my own. Then I moved on to looking at narrative as a whole, and looked at other examples getting inspiration for my own shoots. I have focused on the work of the Luxton Brothers and they are the inspiration for my own project.
For my project I have decided to recreate photos of my siblings from when they were younger to now. I want to compare and share how much they have changed over the years. I have currently done five shoots, and in the middle of this I experimented with layering in photoshop. Responding to Feedback on the Alphabet Project.WWW: excellent outcomes for your alphabet project. Good control of the camera and use of line to draw attention to a specific space.
EBI: complete this project by presenting your final piece. Describe the process of creating a final piece. I am going to take all of my photos and make one final piece. I will use photoshop to do this. I will open up all of the letters and place them onto one page, then I will re-size them and place them in alphabetical order. This will make it clear that it is my final piece and it will look more presentable. Alphabet Project.Since my last post I have completed my alphabet project. I continued taking shoots until I had every letter of the alphabet, once I had all of them I went on to photoshop to edit and put my photos into black and white. After that I put all my photos into alphabetical order using photoshop, as my final piece. This makes my work look more presentable and it is clear that the photos on there are my final ones. David Hockney.Having finished the alphabet project, I have started to look at a photographer/artist called David Hockney. I have evaluated his work, specifically joiners, and have learnt the way he creates his photos. I have also learnt about why he started to take these type of photos. I am now thinking about how I can create my own joiner.
Alphabet Project. So far this year I have been focusing on my project. I have been thinking of ways to resemble letters of the English alphabet, and capturing them, in ways that are creative and interesting. The last few weeks I have been planning and conducting shoots at school and at home. I am trying to complete the alphabet but at the same time think of words that I can create to also upload to my website, in the style of Jennifer Blakeley.
Edward Weston.Just before Christmas I conducted more shoots in the style of Edward Weston and developed my work. I took photos of gears and skulls, and edited them in the same way I had done with the peppers. Alphabet Project. The first lesson back I was given my first project! I am doing the Alphabet Project, and in the first lesson i did some research on Jennifer Blakeley. I looked at some examples of her work and analysed them.I then went outside and practiced taken photos of objects/scenery that resemble letters of the English Alphabet. I have now planned for my shoot and will be conducting it as well. Once I have taken and developed my photographs I will upload my best examples to my 'Alphabet Project' page.
Edward Weston Peppers. In the last few lessons I have been doing photoshoots inspired by Edward Weston. To start with I looked at a specific photograph of his and I have analysed it to get a better understanding of his style of photography. After doing this I planned my first shoot and experimented taking photos in his style. Once I had taken my photos I picked my best three and uploaded them to my Enquiry Challenges Page, however Edward Weston's photoshoots are in black and white. So using photoshop i edited one of my photos and gave it a heavy contrast and changed it to black and white. I also did my own shoot at home using a different fruit/vegetable still sticking with the style of Edward Weston. Teacher Feedback.Weston Peppers WWW: Lovely work! Clearly inspired by the work of Weston. You have demonstrated great confidence in creative thinking and camera handling techniques. Well done! EBI: I agree with your next steps, how can you develop your work to present a more personal, meaningful response? Response To Feedback. My Next Steps: To capture a more personal and meaningful response, I am going to think about the angle of my camera, and the part of the subject I'm taking a photo of.
