Edward Weston.
Edward Weston was a 20th century American Photographer. Over the course of his 40-year career Weston photographed an increasingly expansive set of subjects, including landscapes, still life, portraits and genre scenes. Much of his photography in the early 1920's can be identified as Pictorialist style, meaning they imitated paintings. In 1923, he traveled to Mexico, where he opened a photographic studio. In 1926, Weston returned to the United States, settling in California, where he continued to create—close-ups, natural forms and landscapes, among several other works. In the 1940's, he took several portraits of his family members that are now considered among his best work.
Weston's Pepper.
The best thing about this photograph is that each person can have their own idea on what is being shown in the image. Three things I like about this photograph is the contrast between black and white, the shape of the pepper, and the fact that depending on the viewer the image can be represented as many different things.
I think that the main thing that makes this photograph unusual is the shape of the pepper, because its not something that you would see every day, and the fact that it is in black and white and has a very high contrast also makes it stand out; and makes it look unusual. There are three formal elements used in this photo: Shape, Line and Texture. When Edward Weston took this photo I think he was interested in the shape and the lighting. |

WWW: I like the contrast and the angles I have taken the photos at.
EBI: I used different light angles because the direction of light is coming from the same side each time.
My Next Steps: To experiment with different light angles to make them look more interesting, and to make them stand out.

WWW: My object is defined and the angle of the lighting had showed every bump and ridge in the school giving it a more textured look.
EBI: I had been more aware of the background when I had changed my angle.
My Next Steps: To continue experimenting with different objects and to be more aware of my background when changing the angle.

WWW: I have captured the smaller details of the pineapple and have shown the texture of it through my photo as well.
EBI: The contrast had been heavier and that the background had been darker.
My Next Steps: To take everything into account, thinking of the background, the lighting and the composition for my final piece.
